Faculty Meeting - Our regularly scheduled faculty meeting is scheduled for this Wednesday, 1/9/08. We will be right after school in the Library. Here is the tentative agenda for Wednesday
- Welcome Back
- This month's plans
- Book study - District Requirement v. our professional expectation
- Grading - EGP v. TAC
- Tardy Sweeps Discussion
We have tried to adjust the tardy policy to see if that would help. It seems to have made very little difference. The administration has kicked around a number of thoughts and ideas. Only one seems to be viable. The thought at this time is that only with some kind of a radical change will we be able to get a hold of this situation. Here is the proposal we may have to adjust as needed:
Here is the procedure:
1. Please be in the hallways between classes. Greet students as they come to class.
2. When the bell rings to begin class, please remain at the door and do not let any student into your class late. Please remain at your door sending all late students to the commons. If you choose, teachers may lock their doors at the start of each class period. (We would rather you meet late students personally and send them to the commons if possible)
3. The administrators, attendance office, and security will be going through the hallways at the beginning of each hour collecting all tardy students and moving them to the commons. Please do not allow students into your class late. Also, Please do not allow students out in the first 10 minutes of class.
4. Students will be issued the appropriate discipline based on what level of discipline they are at.
a. 1st Offense in a sweep = Detention
b. 2nd Offense in a sweep = 1 day Suspension
c. 3rd Offense in a sweep = Suspension (Considered Insubordination)
d. 4th Offense in a sweep = Short Term Suspension with a Parent Conference Required (Considered Insubordination)
5. Students will return to class by the end of the hour. Their discipline paperwork will be their pass to get back to class.
6. We will continue with this “Hallway Sweep” process for at least two weeks.
It is critical that everyone commit to what we have put together. What we are asking is that everyone hold each student accountable to being in class on time. We are defining a tardy as not being in the classroom when the final bell rings. If all teachers will please begin class with a meaningful activity that will focuses students as they come in the door, that would help us a lot.We will be discussing the whole process at the faculty meeting this Wednesday.
Book Study - We are required to complete a book study for the district. All teachers we given a book, "We Can't Teach What We Don't Know", either last spring or late this summer. If you joined our faculty late, please contact Rick Cox for a copy of the book, " At the faculty meeting this month we will only be discussing the process of our book study. If you have the book please plan on bringing your copy to the faculty meeting.
Grading and Progress Reports - All grades need to have been posted prior to winter break. At the faculty meeting we will be asking teacher to report out on progress of grade reporting. We need to know which teachers are using EGP and which are using TAC for online grade reporting. Our goal is to get a letter home with a list broken out be teacher so parents can find their son or daughters progress reports online.
