Other News and Notes

Mayfest Events - There are a number of Mayfest events scheduled this week. If you get a chance please take the opportunity to get to one or more of the activities. Please be a bit flexible in scheduling. Students should not be late for classes. We have worked hard to get a handle on our fourth period attendance. Please continue to keep students in class as required. If students are late because they are working on a Mayfest related project they will have a pass. Please refer to the schedule above.

Department Meetings - The Admin team is starting to meet with departments to discuss sections and numbers for next fall. We would like to schedule all our meetings this week. Please contact Sandy or Diane to schedule a meeting for before or after school if that works. Some lunch times are also available. The numbers we have at this point at without remediation and with setting fairly high seat counts. Please know we are asking for only who is interested in teaching what at this point. The other thing we need is if anyone in your department is interested or willing to teach coursed outside of their current department. That information will help us in preparing a master schedule later this month.

Senior Practice Speeches - We will be listening to Senior Practice Speeches on Wednesday, 5/10. We will be reminding seniors to meet with their advisors at 1:30 on Wednesday for practice speeches. You will be hearing both presentation and interview style senior presentations. The same 5 questions apply to both styles. The only difference is whether the questions are being asked by the committee or if the student is delivering questions and answers through a presentaton format.

Please do your best to provide students with feedback to improve their performance. This is really their only opportunity to practice in front of a faculty member. Also, every student is required to perform a practice speech. If you feel they are not prepared to move on to the real thing, you have two options. Option 1 - Continue to work with the student until they are better prepared and ready to move on. Option 2 - Refer the student over to Pam Larsen and between Pam and the Admin Team we will determine what to do next.
