Other News and Notes

Lockdown Drill - We will have a lockdown drill this week on Wednesday, 4/12. The drill will happen sometime during fifth period. Please review your lockdown procedures with your students and then again after the drill. A couple of things to remember about the drill.

  • All lockdowns will be identified by an intercom announcement.
  • Close and lock all doors.
  • Turn off all lights and cover windows.
  • Keep students out of sight and away from entries during the drill.
  • Do not allow anyone in your room after the drill has began.
  • An announcement will complete the drill.

Road Closure Issues - It could be worse! (Not sure how) The road work on 128th is in full swing. Brian has been in regular contact with the contractor doing the work. They really are trying to do their best to lessen the impact on our students, bus transportation and attendance issues. Here is the general concept.

Senior Lot - The senior lot should be accessible off 128th when we return from break. The problem is that students will not be able to enter from the east of the entry. All traffic entering the lot will need to enter from the west which will cause some major backups at 86th and 128th. After school, students will not be allow to turn right out of the senior lot. As a result, all traffic out of the senior lot will neet to turn left and head west on 128th.

Junior Lot - The junior lot will be accessible off 128th and will have the same conditions as the senior lot. All exiting from the junior lot will be to the west.

Sophomore Lot - The sophomore lot will only be accessible off 94th. Students will enter the drive area just south of the Zieger Elementary Parking Lot. The drive will allow students to pass through the Heritage complex and park in the sophomore lot area. Students will not be allowed to enter or exit the sophomore lot off 128th.

Bus Transportation - At this time the bus loop will be accessible since 86th will not be part of this road project. The problem is that 128th is a major access route for most of our buses. At this time we are not sure what impact the road closure will have on student arrivals. We will monitor late buses and work with our transportation department to get kids here on time.

Things are bound to change and we will need to adjust to those changes. The contractor anticipates the project will last until the middle of May. We should not see a huge impact on student arrivals and attendance. We have asked students to leave earlier and make appropriate arrangements to get to school on time. Please let us know if you are having specific issues with students because of this road project.

Fourth Period Attendance - Hopefully you had a chance to review the information we put out prior to break. Our goal is to deal with the attendance issue fourth period. Administrators and the attendance office will be working hard throughout the month of April to make a difference in student attendance during fourth period. We really need your help. There are a couple of things that will make or break our efforts during this month.

  • Be sure to take accurate attendacne every day, every period - Be perfect in your 4th period attendance
  • Begin and end class on time
  • Take the correct or assigned lunch
  • Do not allow students to leave early for lunch or to 5th period
  • Make an effort to be in the halls during passing periods

WASL Notes - The second WASL window is scheduled for next week. This assessment will be Math and Science. The assessment is scheduled for Tuesday, 4/18 - Friday, 4/21. We will be meeting as a faculty this Wednesday in the Library to go over the details of the assessment. Not much has changed but it is critical we take the time to go over the assessment schedule and review a couple of key details. With AP testing coming up there are some role changes so the meeting this week is important.
