Other News and Notes

Bulidng Culminating Project Stipends - For those who have asked, here is the rundown on the building stipends that relate to our culminating project. If you recall, we came to the faculty in August to form a faculty committee to discuss the distribution of these funds. We met and came to the faculty again in October with the following distribution plan.

  1. Teachers of Senior English classes would receive a stipend for picking up two of the three writing components.
  2. Teachers of Senior Social Studies would receive a stipend for picking up the research component of the project.
  3. All teachers would receive a stipend for work on the portfolios.
  4. We would pay hourly to assist with tracking students in the spring who are slow in completing any part of the culminating project. (These hours would primarily go to Nancy Diseth)

Since we do not submit these hours and stipends until June nobody has been paid at this point. If we find we have any extra money left, it will be distributed evenly between all staff members for their work on culminating project. If you have any questions please contact one of the administrators.

Emergency Drill over Spring Break - Rogers High School is a regional distribution site for Pierce County Health Department. The county will be conducting an emergency drill sometime during the week of April 1 - 9. This may mean nothing or it could me large trucks pulling up to the school simulating a dstribution of materials. If you pull in over the break and see lots of SWAT, county trucks, fire truck, and large semi trucks it could either mean the drill is taking place or I have pulled the wrong handle in the fire control room. In either case, simply turn around and go home!

Spring Break Schedule - There are a lot of activities scheduled over the break. Please try and take some time to recover and get ready for the mad dash to the end. We have a number of spring sporting events but no other major building events. The building will be closed on Friday, 4/7. This is a district holiday and all support staff will be gone. If you do come in on Friday, please check to see if the alarm is on.

Road Closure - If you have not noticed the signs on 128th, they are closing the road this weekend. The county will begin work on the road this weekend and have the road closed on and off through all of April. Please plan accordingly.

4th period attendance Issues - We have taken a hard look at attendance issues and are trying to deal with the issue of attendance as it relates to 4th period. There is a lot we need to do to correct the problem but we have to start somewhere. It really was nice during the WASL week to have quiet classes and kids in class without exception. We want to tackle the most difficult period to begin with and see if we can make an impact there. To do so we need your help. Collette will be getting information out to all staff members sometime this week on our "Perfect Attendance" effort for 4th period. We plan do begin a major makeover on our 4th period attendance efforts when we return from spring break. Stay Tuned...
