Other News and Notes
HSPE Preparation - We are spending this week preparing for the upcoming High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE) Please take the time to remind your students of this very important upcoming assessment. Here are the key events and/or announcements:
- The High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE) replaces the WASL. It remain a graduation requirement. Reading and Writing must be passed while Math completion may be done by either remaining in math or passing the assessment.
- Students will be in LINK on Tuesday getting information about the upcoming assessment. On Thursday, 3/11 - All Sophomores will be reporting to their testing locations. Any Junior and Senior who needs to complete the assessment will also need to report to the testing room for orientation.
- The proctor notebooks are in the main office if you have not picked yours up. Please review it prior to next week. All the schedules such as bell schedules and student schedules should be included.
- Next Wednesday, 3/17 is a regular bell schedule day. There will not be a late arrival day on this day as we have testing on this day.
- There will be a regular proctor meeting next week each day prior to the actual assessment on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
- Please spend a little time this week to encourage students about this upcoming assessment. Now is not the time to be negative about the assessment or the change in the assessment. It is a graduation requirement and many of our sophomores are a bit uneasy about it. Along with that comes the added pressure on our Juniors and Seniors that it is requred for graduation and they may already be struggling. Please encourage them!
Recent Online Survey - The recent survey sent our by the center for Educational Effectiveness was intended to help us better understand how we are doing here at Rogers High School relative to our own statements and the work we claim we are doing every day. It was to be used for a few very specific purposes:
- Our upcoming accreditation review asks us to look at our work critically. We need to compare our stated work to what others might see as they visit us. This survey is just one way or a single data point that may help us with such a comparison.
- The Center for Educational Effectiveness uses this type of survey and the results with "Schools of Distinction". Part of our goal was to see how our results might compare to other school claiming the title of "School of Distinction".
- The survey is intended to give staff an opportunity to evaluate our current practices and then allow us to use the data to adjust and make changes accordingly.
Staffing and Master Schedule - We will be completing our registration materials next week. After that we should have a simply tally for Department Chairs to review by the week of 3/22-26. A final simple tally will not be available until after spring break. Please do not come in and ask for class lists for schedules as we will have nothing for you until mid April.
