News and Notes

IPR Window Opens - The IPR (Interim Progress Report - otherwise known as third quarter grades) open Monday, 4/6. Teachers have all week and through next weekend to post grades to TAC. All grades must be posted to TAC by Monday 6/13. This is a critical time for students who are failing classes. Please work with students so that they know their grades heading into the fourth quarter. We are asking teachers to post grades in their classrooms using student ID numbers. We will be printing a third quarter report card and sending them home with students. Any student not passing your class needs to have a comment as to why and how they can improve.

Faculty Meetng - Our monthly faculty meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, 4/8. We will be meeting in the library. We have a couple of announcement items then we need to deal with two items. The first is WASL updates. The Math WASL is scheduled the begin next week, Monday 4/13 and run the rest of the week. The other is we will be distributing Sr. Portfolios to staff. We will then be norming them and discussing how we what them assessed by all staff. Two critical items. Everyone needs to be there.

Portfolio Turn In - Senior Portfolios are due in LINK on Tuesday, 4/7. Here is how we see the process working. Students will turn in their portfolios to their LINK advisors. LINK advisors need to bring all Senior Portfolios to the Library Tuesday after school. The Library will be closed on Wednesday as we sort the portfolios and prepare for the faculty meeting. At the Faculty meeting on Wednesday 4/8. there will be boxes labeled for each evaluator. We will have sorted the portfolios by evaluator. At the faculty meeting we will take the time to "norm" the scoring of portfolios.

Culminating Project Update and Notes - We are at that point where questions are coming up as to portfolios and culminating project. As you know Pam, the keeper of the Project is out, so we are moving ahead with the following:
  1. Research Papers - All students need a research paper in their portfolio. The rubric for meeting standard is very clear and we will be handing copies of this out at our faculty meeting on Wednesday. Students who did not to complete a Junior research paper last year for who for some reason did not have Junior English at Rogers will need to find a way to complete that requirement in some other course. It is not the responsibility of the Junior English Teacher to reach back in their archives and retrieve this data or regrade the work. We have demonstrated a number of ways students can meet this research standard in other classes. This is not to say students can not work with Junior English teachers but it is clearly not their sole responsibility.Any exceptions to the research component must go through the admin for approval.
  2. Stay Connected to your LINK Advisor - In most cases you are evaluating portfolios from a single LINK advisor. Please keep in contact with that advisor as to the status of the portfolios you are evaluating. If you are missing portfolios please let your LINK advisor know. Please do not assume they already know. Also, as your pass your portfolios please let your LINK advisor know so they can keep in contact with Christie in the Career Center as well as the students themselves.
