Other News and Notes
Grading and Progress Reports - Progress reports are due to parents sometime in the next two weeks. It is important that all parents have access to the progress their son or daughter is making in all classes. The transition to second quarter has been a bit rocky but we need to have grades available to all parents by the end of next week. (12/21/07). There are really two options available to teachers.
Option 1 - Teacher Access Center - This is the district grading program that interfaces with Home Access Center. All teachers are required to maintain attendance in the TAC. This requirement will continue. Teachers who have been able to make the transition from first to second quarter using TAC should continue to use the Teacher Access Center. We really need to see how this new system will work in a variety of subject areas over the course of this year. Parents who take advantage of Home Access Center will be able to see Grades, Attendance, Discipline, and Report Cards. When viewing grades, parents will have the option of viewing either first or second quarter grades.
Option 2 - Easy Grade Pro and SWIFT - Teachers also have the option of moving their grades over to Easy Grade Pro. Teachers choosing this option will need to activate their SWIFT accounts and upload their grades from Easy Grade Pro to their SWIFT site on a regular (at least every two weeks) basis. Teachers will still be required to keep daily attendance on Teacher Access Center. You do not need to do anything more to activate or update Home Access Center. At the end of second quarter, the final semester grade will need to be recorded in Teacher Access Center
We will continue to discuss the issues around Teacher Access Center. The default is for the program to not average the two quarters and at the same time not maintain a running total. The default status of TAC is for the two grading periods (First and Second Quarters) to be graded independently. As teachers complete their grading of second quarter they will be required to manually input a final semester grade based on both first and second quarter grades.
Faculty Soup Lunch - Our annual faculty soup lunch, hosted by the admin team will be this Friday, 12/14. Lunch will be served in the Library during all three lunches. Homemade soups will be on the menu. Please take some time and join us in the Library for a free lunch, good conversations, and a few smiles.
Tardy Hallway Sweep Program - We shared with the department chairs our plans for a "Hallway Sweep Program" at the Monday Department Chair meeting. Our goal is to get a handle on the tardy issue. We will be getting the details out to everyone over the next few weeks. Please know we what to balance a sense of compassion with a strong desire for accountability. In short, we are asking all our staff to help with the program. It will begin when we return from winter break. Stay tuned.....
Segmented Math WASL - We will begin testing students on Tuesday, 12/11 on the Segmented Math WASL. The purpose of this assessment is to break the bigger math WASL into smaller, more manageable segments. Students will take the first portion of the assessment on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. The second segment is scheduled for February. The third and final segment of the assessment is scheduled for May.
A list of students scheduled for the assessment was emailed to all teachers. Please excuse these students second through fourth periods. Some students will be taking the assessment second and third, while others will be testing during third and fourth. We will be using the Library and two classrooms upstairs. Thanks so much to those teachers who have helped make this assessment work. From those who had to relocate your classes to those of you who we have called on to proctor the assessment. We couldn't do it without you all!
