News and Notes

Arena Conferencing - Our arena conferencing is scheduled for this Thursday, 11/29. We will begin with dinner at 5:30 pm in the faculty room. Not a requirement but certainly an option for everyone. Conferences begin at 6:30 pm in the Commons. As in the past we will have the commons set up. Everyone will be assigned a place in the commons. Please try and be set up just prior to 6:30 pm as we have told parents we will begin at 6:30. There be NO general opening session. All conferences will wrap up by 8:30 pm. Here are a couple of reminders.
  1. Please have grading information available for your students. It is not expected that you will have individual grade reports for each students but rather data to support quarter grades that just came out.
  2. Please inform parents of the best way to keep in touch with you and upcoming classwork. If you will be using Teacher Access Center and Home Access Center refer them to the Computer Library Lab to get signed up with Home Access Center. If you are not going to maintain your grades on Home Access Center please let them know how they will maintain contact with current assignments.
  3. Please keep conferences to a few minutes with parents waiting. If necessary, ask parents to set up a time to meet with you at a later time to discuss a matter.
  4. It is expected that all teacher will be at our arena conferencing night. If you have a conflict please contact an administrator so we can make arrangements for your table and have a contact sign-up sheet for parents and a note explaining.
This really is our only opportunity to meet parents. Our student led conferencing program is based on our LINK or advisory program and does not present the same opportunities the arena conferencing does.

Grade Book Options - As most of you are aware we have been given the opportunity to use only the final grading option in Teacher Access Center. In the end, what that means is that teacher will have the option to keep grades a variety of ways but then post their final grades to Student Plus at the end of the semester. There are a lot of implications to this decision we need to think through and discuss as a faculty. It certainly allows us to use other grade book programs to produce our grades. We will discuss some of these at our next faculty meeting but until then please consider some of these questions:

  1. How do we get accurate information to parents on a regular basis concerning assignments, grades, and up coming tests?
  2. What do we do about our upcoming progress reports due in December?
  3. Can we use some functions of the Teacher Access Center such as assignments due and attendance?
  4. What is our responsibility as a faculty and school to parents and students?
  5. Where will this whole thing be at the end of the this year, next fall, end of next year.
I really have no answers. We met with Ericka from ITC and have better information we will share with you next week. In the end, I know we will make good decisions for us, the students, and our parents.

Thank you - As we completed last week and the memorial service for Debbie. I want to thank everyone involve for making it work. From current staff who went above and beyond to take care of us and the family to the retired staff who came back to take care of all the little details of the service on Saturday - THANK YOU. It was a great service. Lots of "Who's Who of RHS" came back to pay their respects. It really turned out great because of everyone efforts. It just goes to show we work in the absolutely best place around.
