Other News and Notes

Assembly - Rachel's Challenge - We will be hosting the national tour of an assembly called "Rachel's Challenge" on Thursday, 10/5. Each year our ASB and Activities program tries to bring in at least one outside assembly with a message designed specifically for high school aged students. Last spring we spoke with the other high schools here in Puyallup and made the decision to bring the assembly to our school this fall.

The purpose of this assembly is to offer our students the challenge of transforming their school through kindness and compassion. The assembly was created from the Columbine tragedy in 1999. Prior to her death at Columbine, Rachel Scott wrote an essay that challenged her readers to "start a chain reaction of kindness and compassion" at their school. Students will be asked to accept the challenges that encompass areas such as the power of influence, the importance of goal setting and journaling, the removal of prejudice and bullying, as well as how to create a climate of kindness and compassion.

It is important that all staff attend the assembly with their students. One of the more important parts of this assembly is the follow-up lessons we will conducting in LINK. Peter will be getting a schedule to teachers as to which will attend the first assembly and which will be going to the second assembly. Please be sure to attend the assembly assigned to your class as seating will be limited.

Faculty Meeting - Our monthly faculty meeting will be this Wednesday, 10/4. We will be meeting in the Library at 1:20 pm.

Progress Reports - Our first formal progress reporting date is scheduled for next Tuesday, 10/10. We will be moving LINK to the end of the day so that LINK advisors can collect the completed progress reports and get them to us. It is important that all students receive a completed progress report from each teacher. I know classes have changed and many students may be new to your classroom but it is critical that all students have each teacher give them accurate and up-to-date information. Until we can move to grades on-line where parents can access student data through the internet we will need to continue with this process.
