Scheduling Issues - We had a conversation about the number of different "events" going on at Rogers High School on any gven day or evening. We really are a comprehensive high school with a full slate of activities and events. It seems lately, however, that we are running into each other trying to accommodate the needs and wants of both faculty and students. We discussed this issue last week at our management team.

I want to say last week was a bit out of the ordinary with all of the big events we had stacked up. I know that we do work hard to try and plan a calendar that meets the needs of all our faculty, staff, and students. In talking with a number of faculty, here is what we would like to propose as a philosophy to our scheduling and then define our process.

Philosophy -

  • While we know classroom interruptions are going to happen, we will value instructional time with our practices.
  • If we need to have all school events which will interrupt classes, we will attempt to have no more than one event in any given week.
  • We will respect our instructional time by scheduling in advance all of our out of class events.

Process -

  1. Any event that requires students out of class must be scheduled and communicated at the first of the month faculty meeting each month. Prescheduling is required for all events involving 5 or more students that last more than a period.
  2. Academic and Co-Curricular events will take priority over activities
  3. Faculty and student meeting schedules will be established for each month. Cancellations will be accepted by we will not reschedule standing meetings.
  4. All meetings and events held at Rogers High School will require a completed building use form
  5. If you are planning on using an area please make arrangements with Ben prior to using the area and always plan on leaving the area in better shape than you found it.

Please know we are proposing these as guidelines at this time. We will bring this up at the faculty meeting, department chair, and site council meetings.

Congratulations - Carolyn Callaghan recently complete all the work required for National Board Certification. Her final assessment was completed this past weekend and as of this week Carolyn is the only Rogers High School (possibly Puyallup School District employee) to received National Board Certification. If you get a chance please stop by and congratulate Carolyn on a job well done!

Building Hours Over Thanksgiving - School is dismissed at 1:10 pm on Wednesday. Custodians will be in the building through that evening. The alarms will be set Wednesday. Please check to be sure the security alarm is off prior to entering the building over the long weekend. Once in the facility, please know we will be asking night security to reset the alarm system each night. There will be athletic practices in the facility throughout the weekend but no other events are scheduled. If you do have an event scheduled please check with Ben prior to leaving for the weekend.
