News and Notes

Third Quarter Report Cards - As we approach 3rd quarter everyone needs to know that we will be publishing grades in TAC. If you are a TAC user this will look much like the progress reporting time. For those who do their grading in EGP, you will need to calculate a third quarter grade and publish it in TAC. Here are the expectations for 3rd quarter.

  1. The window for publishing third quarter grades opens April 7th.
  2. All Grades need to be published by April 11th so we can print report cards
  3. All teachers will publish a third quarter grade in TAC.
  4. Comments are required for any student receiving less than a C in any class
  5. Teachers must have documentation (published grades) in either EPG or TAC to support your reported 3rd quarter grade
Here are a couple of other items we talked about at our last faculty meeting.
  • Students need to know their current grade. Please post current grades in your classroom so students can access their grades. This can be done in a variety of ways. Some teachers have a bulletin board for this purpose. Other teachers have a grade book with student grades and student id numbers that is updated regularly. Students can look their grade up at any time. However you plan on doing it, please make grades available to student.
  • Update grade online on a regular basis. It is expected that grades be updated every two weeks. Some teachers enter grades in TAC and that is done weekly. If you are using EGP it is expected that you upload your grades every couple of weeks so that parents and students can review their progress on a regular basis.
AP Materials Needed - If you are planning on attending AP training this summer you need to get your registration materials in. The district has agreed to pay for the training. There are two trainings for those who will be teaching AP courses next year. One is in Bellevue and the other is at PLU. Both are great professional development opportunities. The last professional development option is the National AP Conference. The conference is in Seattle this summer. The conference is a great opportunity for those interested in finding out more about the AP program or for those who have already developed their coursework. It should not be used for those interested in teaching AP for the first time.

Finally, if you are teaching a new AP course we need to get the paperwork done and your course syllabus submitted for approval. We do not want to wait too long as the process takes some time once we send it on to downtown and the College Board. Please see Scott B. for details.

Master Schedule Timeline - We should be ready to submit our simply tally to the district by spring break. What that means is that we should know what sections of what courses we will be teaching in the next couple of weeks. This week we will be working to complete the registration process and closing out those classes we did not have enough students sign up for. Next week we will start to look at how many sections of each remaining course we will offer. Once we get back from spring break we will be working with departments to fine tune the section offerings. Please do not ask for class lists or numbers until we get a clean simple tally which will not be until the end of next week.
