Grading Scale - We spoke briefly today about the building wide grading scale. Here is the scale we are proposing to use as a building. You will still have the ability to have individual grading categories but the scale is one we will use for all students in all courses. Here is our thinking behind the grading scale we are proposing:
  1. It is more rigorous than the district proposed scale.
  2. Students need to be proficient in a class and we believe proficiency leaves very little room for "D's"
  3. In general, 90% are A's, 80% are B's, 70% are C's, and a very small percentage of the high 60% will qualify students for a passing grade of a D.
  4. Teachers will still have the ability to use CR as a way to pass students without impacting letter grades. (We will have a discussion about when it would be appropriate to use a CR)
94 - 100 = A
90 - 93 = A-
88 - 89 = B+
82 - 87 = B
80 - 81 = B-
78 - 79 = C+
72 - 77 = C
70 - 71 = C-
67 - 69 = D
Below 67 = F

Please let us know your thoughts. We know that no matter what having a building wide grading scale will be difficult so the best way to begin is with this one. More discussions to come.

Opening Assembly - As is the culture at Rogers we will begin the first day of school with all kids in classes. We will follow a regular bell schedule on Wednesday, 9/5. On Thursday, 9/6 we will have our annual welcome back assembly and also be welcoming in our new sophomores. Peter has put our a bell schedule. Dismissal will be by announcement. The only difference with this year's assembly is that the Gov. Chris Gregoire will be on hand to welcome our students as well as receive a national award for safety and innovation. It really is somewhat historic as nobody can recall the last time the Governor was in the Puyallup School District to welcome back students.

Class Lists - Please use the lists generate by Student Plus for your daily class lists. The counselors will be moving students and taking new students in throughout the week. We will not be printing out class list for teachers. Our data processor will be updating your class lists each night before she leaves. When teachers arrive the next morning new and accurate class lists should be available through Student Plus. If you are a new teacher and do not have network access please let one of the administrators know so we can help generate lists for you.
